DO YOU REMEMBER … “The Helms Bakery Man”?
Do you remember when “The Helms Bakery Man” would bring his bakery goods to the neighborhood with his specially made truck with racks of freshly baked cakes, doughnuts, cookies and bread? My own favorite was … of course the cream puffs … man were they good! Well I already KNOW you remember the “Helms Bakery Man” because I have received dozens of emails since I put out the “Good Humor Man” email. DO YOU REMEMBER … The “The Good Humor Man”?
Do you remember when the “Good Humor Man” would patrol the neighborhood in his white uniform and cap and the kids would all run after his van until he stopped to dispence his ice cream treats? My own favorite was an “Eskimo Pie” or a “Fudgesicle” … for only a dime!

DO YOU REMEMBER … The “Smog Suit Man”?
Any OLL Alumni that walked past the old “TRADING POST” store on the corner of Temple Street and Glendale Boulevard will remember the “Smog Suit Man” who stood guard outside the store from the late 1950’s to the early 1970’s. The “Smog Suit Man” was an old WWII diving suit but when the sign “Smog Suit” was added to the mannequin … well a legend was born. Now if you were even more observant you will remember the “Smog Suit Man’s” dedicated girlfriend … the “Fortune Teller” who stared out from in front of the “Trading Post” along side her boyfriend in the Smog Suit for years. I think it cost a nickel to get your fortune read by the lady of fortune but in those days I and most everyone I knew never had a nickel to spare. Anyway, many fond memories remain and 35 years later we are still remembering the “Smog Suit Man” and his girlfriend.

OLL TRIVIA …
OLL TRIVIA PAGE - Trivia is always a lot of fun and there is no lack of trivia in OLL history. The local history around OLL is a very colourful and interesting history. From the beginning of the movie industry, oil wells, the move of the Dodgers to our backyard and even an off-season vacation haunt of the legendary Babe Ruth! We intend to create a complete history on our OLL Website. We are working with several sources including the Local Historical Societies, Historians, The Presentation Sisters’ archives and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles archives offices to gather all information available.
