What about the jingle: “Robert W. Morgan…93 KHJ!”, and dj’s Charlie Tuna, Humble Harve, Machine Gun Kelly?
The Real Don Steele passed away August 7, 1997 at age 61 and on May 22, 1998, Robert W. Morgan lost his battle with lung cancer.
We can still listen to Charlie Tuna, live, on weekday mornings from 5-9am PDT on 104.3 KBIG. He sounds just like he always did!
Humble Harve is now at Westwood One (Oldies), Los Angeles, California. Harve has portrayed a DJ in 3 films, most recently 1995 release of Orion Pictures film There Goes My Baby. He was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
I won $93.00 from the Charlie Tuna on KHJ’s promo contest: “Be caller # ‘_’ and win!” Yuri told me later that day, in class, that he heard me on the radio! I was caller #8, and think of it as my lucky number to this day! Boy, $93.00 was a fortune back then!

No doubt the “coolest” jocks were Dick Hugg “Huggy Boy” and Hunter Hancock. “Lets go huntin with Hunter”. Dick Hugg died in 2006 and I lost contact with HH years ago. Both jocks specialized in Rythem and Blues in the wild 50’s

Jim … Hunter Hancock went to the big microphone in the sky in 2004 at the ripe old age of 88! “Huggy” just joined him recently!

Oh how can we forget the best of best radio jocks the one and only “WOLF MAN JACK” O-O-O-O-W. I think he was on at the midnight hour but I loved listening to him. Remember when he would embarrass the caller and say something like “are you naked”?

Yep … The WOLF MAN was one of a kind! His real name was a rather common name “Bob Smith” … so “Wolfman Jack” was much more in tune with his character! I also liked watching him on the “Midnight Special” … great memories! Did you know that the “Wolfman” actually was DJ in Mexico for 2 years (62-64)? The “Wolfman” went to the “Big Microphone In The Sky” in 1995 after a massive heart attack … his legacy lives on though! Gerry – OllAlumni

What about Casey Kassem and his wife Jeannie Kassam (long blonde hair…longer than Barbara Eden’s on “I Dream of Jennie”)

Lloyd Thaxton was crazy!! Do you remember the drawings/cartoons that he would make sing by cutting out the bottom lip and moving it up and down? I lived for his show!
